Aqaba Bird Observatory

The Aqaba Bird Observatory is a monitoring station for migratory bird species that cross Jordan during their migration between the northern and southern hemispheres. The observatory was established in 2004 in Aqaba by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority in partnership with the Aqaba Water Company and is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Nature.

It is one of the most important resting areas for many different species of birds in Jordan. It is the last resting point for birds before they enter the Sinai Desert and the first resting point upon their return. The Aqaba Bird Observatory includes a range of aquatic, forest and desert environments, which together ensure the attraction of a variety of different species of birds as they cross Aqaba during the spring and fall migrations

During the migration seasons, the Aqaba Bird Observatory opens the way for visitors within standards that ensure the safety of environments and birds by giving them the opportunity to watch migratory species during their rest at the site, highlighting a unique environmental tourism value in this place, as the total annual visitors reach about 10,000 visitors.

At the beginning of your arrival at the Aqaba Bird Observatory, you can learn about all types of birds that migrate periodically, and you can get a guided tour of all the fun activities that the reserve has to offer.  The Aqaba Economic Authority, in cooperation with the Royal Society for the Protection of Nature, has successfully awarded the Aqaba Bird Observatory among 100 global tourist destinations at the Berlin Fair in Germany.

Aqaba's achievement is a fundamental achievement, especially since the sustainability standards adopted by Aqaba in its various tourism categories, especially the Aqaba Bird Observatory, form the basis on which the tourism plans in the Aqaba region are based.
