Khedive Muhammad Tawfiq

Khedive Tewfik was who?

Khedive Tawfiq, whose full name is Muhammad Tawfiq Pasha bin Ismail bin Ibrahim bin Ibrahim bin Muhammad Ali, was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1879 AD. His exact birthdate was disputed; some sources place his birthdate on April 30, 1852, or April 20; others place it on April 11–15 of the same year.

As the eldest son of his father, Khedive Ismail, Khedive Tawfiq stood out from his brothers by not studying abroad. He attended the Manial School in Egypt and later the Khedive Military High School. It is noteworthy that he held a number of positions, including head of the Royal Council for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Public Works. Since he was crown prince, he was well-known for his numerous accomplishments.

Achievements of Khedive Tawfiq

In the period when Khedive Tawfiq was crown prince, his interest in education and its dissemination became clear; he founded the Qubba School at his own expense, and he formed his first ministry in 1879 during the reign of Khedive Ismail, and after assuming the position of Khedive - the ruler of Egypt - he presented many achievements for his country; during his reign, many foreign companies and banks were established, including Anglo-Egypt Bank, Delta Railway Company, and others, in addition to establishing educational institutions to prepare teachers, as well as establishing the Shura Council of Laws and the General Assembly and directorate councils.
