Transportation in Jordan

Public transportation is one of the basic elements in the daily life of the population, due to the importance of the services it provides, as the transportation network consists of public lines that are open to all to transport people from one point to another for a fixed fare, and includes various facilities of its own.

The authorities responsible for the management of transport means, by geographical region, are multiple. For example, the Greater Amman Municipality oversees public transportation within the capital, while transportation outside Amman and those connecting Amman to neighboring governorates are under the jurisdiction of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LTRA).

There are various modes of transport available inside Jordan such as: where, buses, and taxis and the following goes into each of them in detail: Buses: They are further classified into two-way large and small buses where the former is about 34-45 seating capacity depending on the size of the bus while the small buses or coaster bus as they are known, is about 23-25 seating amongst many other passengers. The use of the Coaster bus is often the exception and these buses operate after full occupation of the seats.

Servis: As expressed in the local language, they are taxis, but they are painted white instead of yellow, and they work within the Greater Amman area, and they are responsible for transporting passengers to certain destinations that must be adhered to, which are similar to bus destinations, and they are characterized by their effectiveness in terms of speed of arrival, saving time for passengers, and the passenger must share this means with a number of other passengers in one trip.

Taxi: Which is the most convenient mode of transport; where one can summon the yellow cab for a hop, or for a treck across the borders and it will still be easy to get a taxi; as it can be procured right inside the hotel for foreigners and non nationals in this country, or even by simply standing on the side of the street and waving one's hand, directed towards the road.

With regard to the fare and payment; the majority of these vehicles have a device fixed inside the cab that regulates and computes the charges for the distances covered, but in some cases, the driver and the passenger can negotiate a flat rate for the journey before the commencement of the trip.
