Facts About Queen Alia International Airport
Approximately 35 kilometers separate Queen Alia International Airport in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan from Amman's downtown. The airport was intended to represent 'Jordan' on the map of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where it is situated, despite being officially opened to the public in 1983. The airport offers passenger services, freighter operations, and other services related to aviation.
The said airport has approximately 19 million square meters of space with two lots of runways parallel to each other each measuring 3660 meters in length and 61 meters in width with an area of 1446 sq. In March 2013 the new passenger terminal designed by Foster + Partners was officially opened by Their Majesties King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein and Queen Rania Al Abdullah It is expected that its annual capacity will grow from 3.5 million passengers per year to 9 million passengers per year in the first phase and then after some time to 12 million passengers a year in the second phase.
The Jordanian company, Airport International Group, is responsible for implementing the expansion and development works at Queen Alia International Airport, under a 25-year “establish-manage-transport” concession contract. The group includes a number of regional investors and international specialists in the field of construction, building and airport operation to implement this contract, which was granted by the Jordanian government to Airport International Group.
