C. under supervision of his minister, Imhotep, for the burial of King Djoser. It remains among the earliest stone constructions ever built. Here you will further see the Pyramid of Teti and visit notables' tombs as a portrayal of Egyptian daily life.

Memphis, founded by King Narmer about 3,200 years ago, remains an important city today. Though once the Old Kingdom capital, today it is a sprawling field with one kind of open-air museum housing various missing monuments like two statues of King Ramses II and the alabaster Sphinx of Memphis.

After relishing a delicious breakfast at the place where you are staying, you will be escorted by your knowledge guide to see:

The Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum is one of the most famous museums in the world and has about 120,000 artifacts, some of the finest statues from around the country, and King Tutankhamun's stunning treasures.

The Citadel of Saladin and Mohammed Ali Alabaster Mosque

After visiting the Saladin citadel, which Saladin, a famous Muslim leader, had built, you will see the beautiful alabaster mosque, which was built by King Mohammed Ali about 200 years ago during the Turkish rule in Egypt.

Coptic Cairo

You will visit Christian Coptic Cairo next. You will see the ancient Roman fortress of Babylon and the Hanging Church that stands high above its ancient stone walls. You will actually step inside the Church of St. Sergius, where an enigmatic crypt houses the three-month presence of the Holy Family, as well as the spring from which the family drank. Legend says the Ben Ezra Synagogue is built on top of the palace where baby Moses was found floating in a basket down the Nile.

Islamic Cairo

Continue seeing the highlights of Islamic Cairo as you walk through the medieval city, plan in hand, proceeding from ancient walls and through some of its gates and streets dating from the 10th century. Top it all off with a sweet-from-sugar tea break at the famed Fishawy, the oldest café in Khan El Khalili, Cairo's historic bazaar.

After an always-full itinerary, it is back to the hotel for bed.

Meals: Breakfast.

After breakfast at your hotel, meet your tour guide to embark on a day trip to Alexandria, often referred to as the "shining pearl of the Mediterranean" and the second-largest city in Egypt. Founded by Alexander the Great in 332 B.C., this city is rich in history.

Your Egyptologist guide will drive you to Alexandria in a modern car, taking about two hours. We’ll stop along the way for a break, where you can relax, grab a drink, or stretch your legs.

Pompey’s Pillar

Your first stop will be Pompey’s Pillar, the last remaining pillar from the ancient Roman temple known as the Serapeum.

Citadel of Qaitbay

Next, you’ll visit the Citadel of Qaitbay, built by the Mamluk rulers to protect the Mediterranean coastline from the Ottomans. This fortification stands on the site where the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, once stood but no longer exists.

Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa

Then, explore the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest Roman cemetery in Egypt, featuring three tiers of tombs and beautifully adorned burial chambers of a wealthy Romanized Egyptian family.

Bibliotheca of Alexandria

You’ll also be amazed by the Bibliotheca of Alexandria, which was not only a significant ancient library but also a center for learning and scientific research that attracted scholars from across the Mediterranean. The new Bibliotheca, a modern marvel, shines like a beacon of knowledge along the seafront.

Church of St. Mark and Old Downtown

One of the oldest churches in Africa, the Church of St. Mark is on your list, surrounded by beautiful streets of old Alexandria, home to the local markets selling all the possible traditional sweets and treats one can think about. Baroque architectural splendours can be seen around the place, harmoniously with Italian and French influences as well.

One could take a stroll in the lively Mansheya market, which is replete with traditional ladies' markets of zan'et elsetat, their narrow alleys with many small joints selling jewelry gift items for weddings and engagements.

Abbo Elabbas Mosque

Take a walk to the impressive Abbo Elabbas Mosque, noted as the most beautiful mosque of the city. Right next to it, stands a quaint little old fairground which enchants children with its antique-style rides and candy floss. For classic and memorable pictures, embark on the corniche, which looks down towards the occasional sight of the more traditional boat fishing trades and local fisherman adhering to old ways.
