Itinerary

The trip to the wonderful Siwa Oasis starts very early in the morning at about 6:00 AM when our qualified tour guide picks you up from your hotel in Cairo or Giza. Relax on a lovely drive through the Egyptian desert on the way to El Alamein, our first stop on this journey. This is where you will be visiting the El Alamein World War II Museum, where the history of the famous battle that took place in 1942 is preserved. Walk through the displays containing war relics, uniforms, and photographs and shed light on the battle that was a turning point for the Allies. Then, a contemplative walk through the Commonwealth World War II Cemetery You be taken by our guide, where 7,000 white headstones provide a last tribute to the fallen soldiers from Australia, New Zealand, and Britain.

Departing from here, we now pass along the gorgeous Mediterranean coastline and enter Marsa Matrouh, a little coastal town famous for its transparency of water and sandy shores. Enjoy a seafood lunch accompanied by the serene view of the seaside. Following lunch, we will continue our journey to Siwa Oasis, a hidden paradise that lies deep in the Western Desert surrounded by wonderful palm groves and beautiful salt lakes. Approximate four hours of drive from Marsa Matrouh to Siwa with amazing scenery on the way.

The check-in at the eco-lodge is simple and quaint and aims to blend in with the beauty of the oasis. It will be followed by a delightful dinner consisting of Siwan food prepared from fresh local ingredients. After sunset, kick back and relax while cherishing the star-speckled sky and serene atmosphere of this place isolated in the deserts. Rest up for another great adventure at Siwa Oasis tomorrow!

After a delightful breakfast at the eco-lodge surrounded by palm groves and sweeping desert vistas, you are ready to commence an exciting day of exploration in Siwa. First stop: the decayed ruins of Shali, the old mud-bricked fortress that was the pulse of Siwa town. As you walk through the ruins of what was once a thriving town, you can appreciate stunning panoramic views of the oasis below. The next place is the Temple of the Oracle, or the Temple of Alexander the Great, where, according to legend, Alexander was declared the son of Amun. Just a short drive away, you will see the Temple of Amun Ra (Um Ubeyda), another significant monument of Siwa's rich history.

Delve deeper into the Siwan culture by visiting the Siwa House Museum, where you'll learn about traditional Siwan architecture, clothing, and daily life. Then, savor delicious fare at Abdo Restaurant, a cherished eatery set in the center of the oasis, which provides a good view of Shali Fortress. Your afternoon delight will involve an exploration of the impressive mountain of the dead (Jabal el Mawta), the ancient necropolis with rock-cut tombs from the times of the 26th Dynasty. Inside are lavishly decorated burial chambers, including the tombs of Si-Amun, MSW Isis, and Crocodile Tomb.

To ease away the fatigue of the day, enjoy a refreshing dip in Cleopatra's Spring, a natural hot spring where you can soak in the clear waters. As the sun starts to go down, watch as they're whisked off to Fitnas Island, another breathtaking location for one of Egypt's most enchanting sunsets, with golden reflections on placid salt lakes. After such an unforgettable journey, return to your eco-lodge for a cozy night in Siwa.

Your enthusiastic desert exploration awaits you after a hearty breakfast served in the eco-lodge. The renowned Egyptologist guides you off to the great 4X4s toward the splendid Great Sand Sea, one of Egypt's most magnificent desert landscapes. The drive onto the golden dunes, full of thrills, for an adrenaline-filled start to the Siwa Desert Safari, was captivating as the expert guides took participants off-road through this vast and dynamically evolving terrain.

The first stop is the fossil site, where rocky coral reefs that are believed to be Cambrian in age stand as a testament to the bygone days of the desert. As you drive further into the desert, discover a concealed desert lake, a veritable oasis in this sandscape. You may spot some flamingos leisurely walking in the water, should fortune take your side. Dip into the cool waters of the lake, soaking in the peaceful desert scenery, and then proceed to Dakrour mountain, known for its healing sands and splendid panoramic views.

For added exhilaration, sandboarding on the prominent dunes of the Great Sand Sea is surely a must: an exciting activity enabling you to slide down the golden slopes. Relax afterward at Bir Wahid hot spring, as the warm mineral waters will do wonders for your tired muscles after the active day. Gather in the cozy desert camp as the sun sets, drinking traditional Bedouin tea and watching the dunes illuminate with golden light. 

After such a memorable day, return to your eco-lodge in Siwa for a peaceful night's rest.

Awake to the quiet serenity of Siwa Oasis; savor a last all-organic breakfast inside the eco-lodge, sampling fresh local ingredients, in a desert's silence. Take a long moment with a great view of the palm groves and salt lakes before you return for your journey.

This is after breakfast at which moment, the personal driver and Egyptologist guide will be picking you up for the journey way back to Cairo. The drive takes about 8 to 9 hours. On the way, there will be an opportunity for you to stop at one comfortable rest station where you can exercise your legs, munch, and take a few last photos behind the scenes of Egypt's endless desert. Recall the wonderful journeys passed in Siwa, from exploring temples and ancient necropolises to thrilling desert safaris and magical sunsets.
