Meidum Archaeological Site Half-Day Tour

Overview

Enjoy an incredible tour in Cairo with Cairo Top Tours, offering you an ideal tour specially organized so you can enjoy every moment of your day.

Today, we will explore together the Pyramid of Meidum, considered the first pyramid in Meidum for King Sneferu of the Fourth Dynasty. It is said that King Huni, the last king of the Third Dynasty, began its construction. It is a unique structure, situated within a cemetery reserved for the king's relatives and senior officials. It was originally built as a stepped pyramid with seven terraces. The terraces were increased to eight in a second phase, and it was covered with limestone on the outside, but this covering no longer exists today.

In addition, the tomb of Ra-Habet and Nefert, located north of the pyramid of Medum, is one of the most famous archaeological tombs in the region, inside which the statues of Ra-Habet and Nefert were found, which are among the masterpieces exhibited in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir. The Ouz Medum painting, found in the mastaba of Nefer Maat and Itet north of the pyramid of Medum, is one of the most magnificent examples of Egyptian art from the Old Kingdom and is now preserved in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square.

With our half-day trips to Cairo, you can visit the ancient site of Meidum and witness one of Egypt's oldest pyramids. Built by King Snefru, the father of Cheops, the pyramid of Meidum is solitary in a desert corner, close to several little mastabas.

Today, our guide explained in detail the history of the Pyramid of Meduim. The construction of this pyramid dates back to the reign of King Sneferu, founder of the Fourth Dynasty in the Old Kingdom and one of the most prominent kings of ancient Egypt, who contributed to the development of the geometric shape of the pyramids. The project began as a stepped pyramid similar to the Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, then the engineers attempted to convert it into a full-sided pyramid by adding layers of limestone to cover the steps. The pyramid represents an important transitional link between the idea of the “platform” and the full pyramid, making it a turning point in the history of Egyptian funerary architecture.

In addition, the Pyramid of Meidum is a unique experience for anyone who loves history and archaeology, as the site offers an opportunity to contemplate the early beginnings of the Pharaohs' greatness away from the tourist crowds. This place is also characterized by its tranquility and natural desert beauty, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a journey that combines contemplation and knowledge.

Once the Piramide Meidum tour is over, we will return you to any desired spot.
