The Colossi of memnon, These imposing statues, each weighing 720 tonnes and crafted from quartzite sandstone, depict Pharaoh Amenhotep III (1386-1350 BC). Initially damaged by a significant earthquake in 27 BC, the colossi were later reconstructed in 199 AD. Renowned throughout the Greco-Roman Empire, the statues garnered fame for the "Vocal Memnon" phenomenon, a natural occurrence where the wind produces sounds as it passes through the monument at dawn.
