On Day 4 of your Egypt Easter Tours, after having breakfast at your hotel in Cairo, you will meet your tour guide to start your day trip to Alexandria. Known as the shining pearl of the Mediterranean, Alexandria is the second-largest city in Egypt and holds a rich history.

You will travel to Alexandria in a modern car, which will take approximately 2 hours. Along the way, there will be a stop for a break where you can rest, have a drink, and stretch your legs.

Your first stop in Alexandria will be Pompey's Pillar, the only remaining pillar from the Roman temple known as the Serapeum. This ancient site holds historical significance and is a marvel to behold.

Next, you will visit the Citadel of Qaitbay, a fortress built by the Mamluk rulers to protect the city's Mediterranean seacoast. The citadel stands on the spot where Alexandria's ancient lighthouse, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, once stood.

Another fascinating site you will visit is the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the largest Roman cemetery in Egypt. These catacombs consist of three layers of tombs and chambers carved out of the rock, showcasing beautiful decorations and the burial site of a wealthy Romanized Egyptian family.

The next highlight of your trip will be the Bibliotheca of Alexandria, an important ancient library and center of learning in the ancient world. Although the original library no longer exists, the modern Bibliotheca is a remarkable architectural project that adorns the sea boulevard and serves as a symbol of knowledge.

You will also have the opportunity to visit the church of St. Mark, one of the oldest churches in Africa, and explore the old downtown area of Alexandria, where you can take a leisurely walk and soak in the local atmosphere.

During your time in Alexandria, you will have the chance to explore the local markets, where you can find a variety of goods, including traditional Egyptian sweets and treats. The architecture in this area showcases baroque-style designs and Italian and French-inspired properties.

You will pass through the oldest market area in Mansheya and witness the traditional ladies' markets, known as "zan'et elsetat," with their narrow streets. Here, you can also find the gold market, where many people purchase their wedding and engagement jewelry.

Nearby, you will find an old funfair, where children enjoy antique funfair rides and indulge in candy floss. The corniche and old harbor area offer picturesque views of traditional fishing boats and fishermen at work, providing great opportunities for stunning photographs.
