This is where your adventure starts! On your unbelievable month-long tour, our tour begins in Rome, the Italian capital and home of the first New World Wonder. An agent will greet you upon arrival and plan for a transfer to your hotel.
Day 2 is spent taking a tour of Rome's main attractions. We begin at Rome's main square, Piazza Venezia, and proceed by foot to the well-known Piazza Del Campidoglio, which was created by Michelangelo and offers breathtaking views of the Roman Forum. Later on, we pass the Aventino Hill and the Circus Maximus. Before we move on to our first world wonder of the tour, the Colosseum, the emblem of the eternal city, take in the magnificent Michelangelo statue of Moses housed in the Church of St. Peter's in Chains. Constructed more than 1,900 years prior, it is believed to be the biggest amphitheater ever created. We will examine this amazing technical achievement and discover the background to why it was built and the gruesome sport that took place here many years ago.
You have the day to yourself to see more of the city.
Today, we all go together to the airport to make our flight to Amman. When you arrive in Amman, you will be met at the airport and taken by car south to the mysterious city of Petra. You'll see some incredible scenery during the three-hour drive. After you check into the hotel, the rest of the day is yours.
We travel to the historic Nabatean Rose City of Petra this morning, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We have to descend a steep, narrow siq in order to reach the Rose City's hidden treasures. This creates tension until the rocks eventually part to reveal the Treasury, also known as Al-Khazneh. We will now continue our exploration of the ancient city, coming across temples, tombs, a Roman colonnaded street, and an amazing amphitheater. If you're up for it, climb the hundreds of steps carved out of rock to reach Ad-Deir. Ad-Deir also called the Monastery, is much larger and boasts breathtaking views from the surrounding cliffs. Its facade is comparable to that of the Treasury.
Petra, Mt. Nebo, Madaba, Shobak Castle, and the Dead Sea. We are heading to the Dead Sea this morning after leaving Petra. We will travel through the Heisha Mountains, making a first stop to explore the Shobak Crusader Castle from the 12th century. After traveling to Madaba, we visit St. George's Church, which has a stunning mosaic map of the Holy Land from the sixth century. This is the largest collection of ancient mosaics in the world. The next destination is Mount Nebo, where Moses first saw the Promised Land. On a clear day, you can see the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, Jericho, and even Jerusalem from here. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth's surface, and we descend to its shores to end our day. You will have the chance this afternoon to take a dip in the unusually warm and incredibly buoyant mineral-rich waters. The Dead Sea, renowned for its curative powers and therapeutic qualities, is the world's oldest spa!
We have some free time today to relax at the Dead Sea before heading to the airport this afternoon to catch our evening and an overnight flight to Delhi.
We will fly into Delhi this morning and make our way to our hotel. You can spend the remaining of the day exploring Delhi or relaxing at your hotel.
We are leaving the chaos of Delhi this morning and traveling to Agra. where the magnificent Taj Mahal is located. As the sun sets this afternoon, we're going to see the most ostentatious monument ever constructed in honor of love. Constructed entirely of white marble, the Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died tragically during childbirth in 1631. Work on the structure did not begin until 1653. The Taj Mahal's construction employed up to 20,000 workers, according to estimates.
Our day starts at the Agra Fort, which has some of India's greatest Mughal structures hidden behind its enormous walls. Under the reign of Emperor Akbar, work on the fort began, and it was expanded until the time of his grandson, Shah Jahan. It served as a military fort during Akbar's reign, but later on, its purpose changed and it was partially transformed into a palace. Following our tour of this magnificent fort, we will return to Delhi.
We take pleasure in a guided tour of both Old and New Delhi today, covering Humayun's Tomb, India's oldest and largest mosque, Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat (the site of Gandhi's cremation), India Gate, and Rajpath in New Delhi. We will head to the airport late this afternoon to get ready for our overnight flight to Beijing.
Today, upon our arrival in Beijing, we will be taken to our hotel. You have the rest of the day to yourself.
China's economic, political, and cultural center is Beijing, the nation's capital. Beijing was founded in 1045 BC and for 800 years it was the capital of different dynasties. Ten stories high, the Monument to the People's Heroes awards those who died in the Revolution. Large gates, temples, halls, and opulent buildings dominate the 720,000 square meter Forbidden City, a formidable palace complex encircled by a moat. Silk Alley is a retail haven in the afternoon where you can purchase real Rolex watches and sparkle jewelry.
China's Great Wall Beijing - China's Great Wall - Beijing. We leave Beijing today and travel to Mutianyu, where we will see the amazing Great Wall of China. The breathtaking views and the realization that this 2,200-year-old wall is a 6700-kilometer wall that once served to defend the new China from invading invaders from the north make the occasionally steep walk all the more amazing. The tour continues today to the imperial Ming tombs, where a few of the decorated mausoleums that house the remains of about 13 emperors are visible.
