Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) | Amman International Airport
Queen Alia International Airport
The easiest way to get to the center of Amman from the airport is by taxi; the journey takes about 30-45 minutes and the fare is around 15 JD (equivalent to about $ 22). However, there are also shuttle buses that connect the airport to the city center bus station, departures from the airport are every half an hour.
Taxis are readily available outside the terminals. Shuttle buses also connect the QAIA with the southern terminal of Amman (and vice versa) every half hour between 06.00 and 16.30, every hour between 17.00 and midnight, and every hour between midnight and 03.00 in the morning. The cost of the ticket is JD 3.00.
Leveraging Jordan's strategic geographic location and operating non-stop flights to many destinations worldwide, Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) has emerged as the ideal regional center for leisure, business, and medical travel.
As the Kingdom's prime gateway to the world, QAIA offers direct access to major cities across the globe - effectively connecting east with west, while providing a broad range of flight and route options.
Located 35 kilometers from the heart of the capital, Amman, QAIA was established in 1983 to serve as Jordan's main and largest airport - providing passenger, air cargo, and aviation support services. QAIA comprises two parallel runways that are 3,660 meters in length and 61 meters in width, with a separation of 1,446 square meters.
In 2007, Airport International Group - a consortium of local and international partners with proven experience in airport rehabilitation, enhancement, operation, and management - was awarded a 25-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession agreement by the Government of Jordan.
The QAIA New Terminal - which was inaugurated in March 2013 under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein - raised the annual passenger capacity from the initial 3.5 million to nine million. Moreover, the second phase of the QAIA New Terminal project was launched in September 2016 under the patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, further increasing the annual passenger capacity to up to 12 million.
