Where more than 50,000 artifacts will relate the stages of the development of civilization from the earliest times of the prehistoric period to the modern era.

The museum’s holdings are displayed in a permanent major exhibition that deals with the most important achievements of Egyptian civilization, in addition to 6 other exhibitions dealing with topics as follows: Civilization, the Nile River, Writing, State and social structure, Culture, Religion, in addition to an exhibition of the Royal Mummies.

The museum also includes spaces for temporary exhibitions, as well as an exhibition on the development of modern Cairo. The National Museum will include service, commercial, and recreational buildings, and a research center for the science of ancient materials and restoration. The museum hosts a variety of events, such as film screenings, conferences, lectures, and cultural activities.

Thus, this museum, which targets local and foreign audiences, will be an integrated institution that has a distinguished role in spreading archaeological awareness and defining Egypt's role in laying the foundations of human civilization thousands of years ago.

In 2017, within the framework of the partial opening of the museum, a temporary exhibition hall of 1000 square meters was opened, and it includes a temporary exhibition entitled "Egyptian crafts and industries through the ages", which aims to introduce the development of Egyptian crafts (pottery, weaving, carpentry, and jewelry). This exhibition includes about 420 artifacts selected from some museums, and many models, in addition to large screens displaying a number of documentaries dealing with the history of each craft and its development through the ages.

Visiting dates are from 9 a.m. -4 p.m. every day.
