Alexandria is located in the northern part of Egypt, where it is one of the largest coastal cities. Founded by Alexander the Great in 331 BC. It is most famous in classical times as the site of the Pharos Lighthouse, which is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, to the Temple of Serapis, Serapion, which was part of the legendary library in Alexandria, as a position for learning, and the largest and most prosperous city in the world. It also became infamous for the religious conflict that resulted in the martyrdom of the philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria in 415 CE. The city developed from a small port city to become the greatest and most important city in ancient Egypt.
Alexander the Great conquered Egypt with his army after the conquest of Syria in 332 BC. He established Alexandria on top of the ruins of a small coastal town called Rahkotis by sea and began the assignment of transforming it into a great capital. He is said to have designed a plan for the city that was later greatly admired by the historian Strabo (63 BC–21 CE). Alexandria developed to become the largest in the known world at the time, drawing scientists, philosophers, mathematicians, artists, and historians. Eratosthenes (c. 276–194 BCE) assessed the circumference of the earth to within 80 km at Alexandria. The hero (also known as Heron, 10-70 AD) was born and lived in Alexandria, where he is considered one of the greatest engineers and mathematicians of his time. The hero was credited with amazing feats in engineering and technology, including the first vending machine, the force pump, and a theater of automated figures who danced, among his other inventions.
If travel has a purpose, in the case of late Egyptian history, travel is the purpose. History is present in all its intricacy and entices any traveler to experience the vivid extremes of modernity and antiquity present and prosperous in the city. Its proximity to the coastline, coast landmarks, ruins, and metropolis of Alexandria makes it a suitable point of entrance to the northern Egypt routes. Such developments in Egypt would increase the level of air traffic, and Borg El Arab would become as significant as it is now for the consumption of tourists from all over the world and, of course, the outreach of Alexandria to the rest of the world.
