Wadi El-Natrun is regarded as the birthplace of monasticism. Essentially, it used to be home to about fifty different monasteries but only four of them have survived the time and erosion elements. There were about 50 monasteries, but only 4 have survived until today.

Your day tour will start with a visit to Deir al-Baramus (monastery of Barmus), the oldest of the surviving 4 monasteries, and the most isolated one, then proceed to Deir Anba Bishoi (monastery of St Bishoi) whose body is still in the monastery. You will end your trip with a visit to Deir El-Suryani (Monastery of Al-Suryan) the smallest and most preserved monastery.
